Intelligent Big Dog Breeds

Dogs are really intelligent animals – more than some animals in the animal kingdom! But their area few breeds that are exceptionally intelligent. Some of these smart breeds are great as service animals or other specialist jobs. Find out this week some of the cleverest dog breeds in the world!

Australian Cattle Dog. â€“ Yes! That’s a breed! These pooches are extremely intelligent. An incredible mix between Blue Merle Shepherd and the native Australian Dingo, these dogs have high energy and hard-working. These intelligent dogs will thrive in a very active home. They especially love high-intensity or high energy games like agility training and herding.

These dogs are fiercely loyal and protective of their families but wary of strangers, so may become nervous or anxious if inundated with attention form people they’re not familiar with.

If you are a new dog owner, be prepared if you’re looking at getting an Australian Cattle Dog – they require A LOT of mental and physical exercise and stimulation. This will help them stay happy, healthy and avoid boredom which can result in destructive behaviours.

Make sure you’re able to provide what this dogs needs. The Australian Cattle Dog is intelligent, highly devoted to their owner and family. they usually attach closely to one person and bonds less closely with others.

Australian Cattle Dog's are often called a "Velcro" dog because they attach so firmly;  they like to be in close physical contact with their chosen person all the time.

Poodles. â€“ Poodles are not just gorgeous dogs to look at, they are delightfully intelligent to own as a pet! The Poodle is an impressive dog. Behind the impressive hairdos, bests-in-show ribbons, and regal attitude, you’ll find an affectionate family dog with many talents.

Poodles are regarded as one of the most intelligent dog breeds in the world (obviously... them being in our list!) They respond extremely well to training and love lots of physical and mental stimulation.

Active owners who are able to meet this boisterous dog breeds needs will have a loving, trainable, clever, and incredibly loyal dog.

Though poodles today seem to exude a life of luxury, they were initially bred as water-fetching dogs!

Poodles come in three “sizes” as it were…Toy, Miniature and Standard. But regardless of which size you own; you’ll be getting a pet with a playful but dignified personality and razor-sharp intelligence.

German Shepherd. â€“ Have you ever noticed a lot of Police dogs are German Shepherds? There’s a very good reason! In fact, there are loads of great reasons!

German Shepherd dogs are VERY intelligent!

They excel in almost anything they are trained in, including guide dog training, medical assistance, military and police work, search and rescue to name a few! A well-recognised breeds, it’s in the top ten popular dog breeds in the US.

German Shepard dogs were first bred to herd animals, so they are a high energy dog breed that needs a lot of activity and exercise.

If you aren’t able to provide the right amount of exercise and stimulation to this dog they can take out their boredom and frustration with problematic behaviours such as barking and chewing.

Though the German Shepard dog is a great family pet, it can have certain personality traits that make them suspicious of strangers or people they don’t see on a regular basis.

This makes them brilliant watchdogs but can mean they become anxious or defensive hen met with new people.

If you have a German Shepard puppy, you can expose them to lots of different situations and people whilst they’re still young This will help them in their adult life to take meeting new people and places in their stride.

Doberman Pinschers. - Though these dogs look tough, and are in fact excellent guard dogs, they have a notable emotional intelligence that makes them incredible therapy and search-and-rescue dogs.

Dobermans have a reputation that precedes them. They are feared by those who don’t know the breed well and wrongly stereotyped as fierce, highly aggressive, vicious, and scary.

In actual fact, Doberman dog owners would describe them as loving, gentle, and watchful pets. These dogs can be trained as formidable guard dogs and will fearlessly stand their ground and protect their owners.

The Doberman Pinscher enjoy being part of an active and loving family. Within this close and loving unit, they're a natural protector. Despite their reputation, they are trustworthy with their family's children, friends, and guests as long as they are treated kindly.

In spite of their positive qualities, the Doberman isn't the right breed for everyone. They're large, at 60 to 80 pounds, and they're extremely active, both physically and mentally.

Doberman dogs require a strong owner/pack leader to socialise them properly, train them and keep them suitably busy so they don’t become bored or disruptive for attention. They need a lot of exercise and a can act out if they become bored.
